Apple offers equipment recycling program Apple has begun offering a recycling program to "provide a product end of life management option for purchasers Apple equipment." This end of life program is currently available to all Apple customers. According to Apple, this process diverts 85 - 90% of each unit from landfill and into beneficial uses in other markets. More.

Microsoft's next buy: Sega? Having gobbled up Connectix, makers of Virtual PC, Microsoft may be giong after household-name game maker Sega. CNET reports "Microsoft has asked at least one U.S. investment bank to investigate ways it could buy all or part of Sega, while EA in recent weeks has approached Japanese game makers about launching a joint bid for Sega." Tablet PCs off to a good start ZDNN reports that the Tablet PC is off to a rousing start, with vendors Hewlett-Packard and Toshiba saying sales of their tablet PCs--tiny portable computers fitted with pens, touch screens and handwriting-recognition technology--are exceeding predictions made before the devices' November launch. "Tablet PCs are still a fairly small segment of the overall notebook market. But the devices have so far been a bright spot for manufacturers which are still feeling the effects of the PC market crash of 2001." More.

Be your own wireless network The New York Times looks at options for users who need Internet access on the go, but can't pop into a Starbucks or other Wi-Fi hotspot. "The allure of an Internet connection anytime, anywhere is powerful. To satisfy the craving, wireless networks have proliferated in airports, bookstores and coffee shops. But what if you have online affairs to tend to on the road, but no access to such a network? There is some good news. Your laptop can be connected to a wireless phone that can serve as a modem, or it can be equipped with a wireless modem in the form of a PC card that fits into an expansion slot." More.
