Apple Battery Update 1.2 for MacBooks, MacBook Pros released

A new battery firmware update is intended to "improve battery functionality" for MacBooks and MacBooks Pros, according to Apple.

Apple has released a firmware update that "improves battery functionality" for the following systems:

  • MacBook
  • MacBook (Late 2006)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch Core 2 Duo)

Update: Although Apple's release notes for Battery Update 1.2 are vague, a Reuters article based on an interview with an Apple rep states that one of the issues potentially resolved is "not charging when the computer is plugged into an outlet."

The update is available as a 242 KB standalone download. Apple states "The BatteryUpdater application will check to see if a battery needs to be updated on startup, wake from sleep, and when a battery is inserted."
