Adding triggers to SmartPorts software

CNET staff
Mitchell Yawitz was having trouble getting Momentum's SmartPorts software to work with his Kodak DC200 digital camera. He found a solution, using ResEdit to add a new "trigger." He writes: "It seems that Momentum simply did a survey of all the applications, drivers, etc. that they could find, and shipped the extension with those triggers predefined. I was successful in adding a trigger for the application in question using ResEdit (in my case, Type "APPL", creator "Kpta")."

Here are the step-by-step details for adding triggers to SmartPorts (always work with a copy of the file!):

  1. Open SmartPorts™ extension in ResEdit
  2. Select Resource/Open TRIG Picker. The four resources (4, 5, 6, 7) list the triggers for the four ports (1, 2, 3, 4).
  3. Edit the resource for to the desired port (Resource/Open Resource Editor)
  4. Scroll to the bottom, and select the last line
  5. Insert New Field (Resource/Insert New Field)
  6. Enter the Type and Creator for the desired trigger.
  7. Save and Close
  8. Drop the patched version into the extensions folder and reboot.
