iTunes debuts affiliate program in U.K.

Apple Computer's iTunes has launched an affiliate program in the United Kingdom that lets third parties make money on the tracks they sell on behalf of the online music service. Apple-affiliated song sellers will be able to earn a 4 percent commission on each single track or album they sell. Resellers can also sell Apple hardware such as the iPod. The program is already running in the United States and has attracted about 150,000 resellers, according to the company.

The affiliate program is not open to just anyone, however; pornographic and racist sites are banned from taking part, as are any sites that use spyware or those that are deemed "inappropriate" by iTunes. Signing up for the affiliate service, provided by Firstgate, is free.
