Line-Mode Browser: Author Nicola Pellow (1991)
Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first graphic Web "browser editor," which he called WorldWideWeb, in 1990. He later changed the name to avoid confusion. Another "line-mode" version distributed by a contemporary colleague in 1991 displayed only text, as shown here. Browsers could type "1" to go to the first link on a Web page or use commands such as "go" if they knew the full Web address.
