How to unfollow Ashton Kutcher
Updated at 11:15 AM with reports from users. See end of story.
Twitter is getting fishy. In the race between Ashton Kutcher (aplusk on Twitter) and the CNN Breaking News feed (CNNbrk) to get to 1 million followers first, Kutcher won. But was the race goosed by Twitter itself?
Can't unfollow Kutcher? Don't give up...
(Credit: Screenshot by Rafe Needleman/CNET)Last night, various reports surfaced (see TechCrunch, for example) that while people could follow Kutcher and CNNbrk, they couldn't unfollow them.
But the real issue is this: The people of the world need a way to unfollow Kutcher, or whomever else they want to. The standard way of doing it, going to a Twitter user's update page, and pressing the "remove" button under the "Following" notification, doesn't work for the aplusk or CNNbrk accounts. You'll get an error.
This works. So long, Ashton!
(Credit: Screenshot by Rafe Needleman/CNET)But here's how to get around that: Simply enter the update "off aplusk" or "off CNNbrk" in your Twitter status entry box, or in any Twitter client. This is the reverse of the command to follow someone, "f [name]." I confirmed that it works. I was listening to Kutcher before, and now I'm not.
The world is saved.
Update at 11:15 a.m. PDT: Reports are coming in that this method for unfollowing is not working reliably. My latest report: After following aplusk anew, I tried it once more and it didn't appear to work at first, but after a few minutes I confirmed that I had in fact unfollowed aplusk again. Also, I tried following and unfollowing aplusk directly from his own page, and that also worked, but I tried it again and got the old error message. Feel free to report your experiences in the comments below.

off aplusk ? sounds like a command that a Mafia don would give
off famous ******** + morons who f them
I removed Ashton and Brittaney during the online session but they kept showing as someone I was following. I gave up and didn't think much of it until I read about CNN purchasing a Twitter account that made it the #1 twitter account and that Aston Kutcher was protesting.
I signed back on last night and it showed that I was no longer following Aston or Brittaney, howver how did I get on there to begin with? Something is indeed fishy about Twitter.
My hats off to you Rafe, although I'm personally straight I applaud anyone who chooses to publically out themselves by admitting to having followed a major tool like Ashton 'never met an idea I didn't like to steal and claim as my own' Kutcher. He's the white man's answer to Carlos Mencia ... then again, we're not really sure what that lying SOB is either? ugh ...
off rafen
If "off aplusk" doesn't work, try with good old "leave aplusk" (or "leave cnnbrk"). Seems to be working ;)
send "off aplusk" to 40404 and it should do the trick.
I did this after "off aplusk" didn't work using twitter.
I used Nambu (nambu.com) to unfollow him. I assume you could also use tweetdeck or any other 3rd party twitter app that has that functionality.
to Mister Turner and to tell Larry King that "I told you such"
i guess the moral of the story is I'd get more views
writing about Ashton Kutcher rather than about news

- That would be funny if they dropped to under 200k in one week. I wouldn't be suprised if they got a hookup and even think Spencer Pratt has a super nerd network ready to take down Ashton, if a round 2. Social media at its best, lol, go Oprah...
