Help choose the next CNET Prizefight: BlackBerry Bold versus...?

by Bonnie Cha
RIM BlackBerry Bold

Who should the BlackBerry Bold take on?

OK Crave readers, I need your help. The CNET Prizefight ring is setting up for a few final battles before the end of 2008, and one contender just waiting for its chance in the spotlight is the RIM BlackBerry Bold. Now usually, the editors make the decision about which two devices to compare, but frankly, I'm having trouble choosing the right competitor. I've got some ideas, but thought it would be nice to get your feedback as well.

I've already received a lot of reader e-mails wondering how the Bold stacks up to the iPhone 3G. However, I'm a little hesitant to compare the two since I think the phones are intended for different audiences (business versus consumer) and have different design elements (QWERTY keyboard, touch screen, and so forth). Plus, there are plenty of other worthy smartphones out there. The iPhone is not the end all, be all. But hey, if I get an overwhelming response for the iPhone, majority rules and I'll be happy to oblige. Either way, let me know what you think in the comments section below by Thursday, and I'll choose the winner on Friday.

Also if you're wondering: yes, there is already a iPhone versus RIM BlackBerry Storm prizefight in the works, so grab your seats for that showdown, which is coming next week.

I'd like to see a comparison between the Bold and the Nokia E71. The E71 is a pretty slick device, from the pictures I've seen, and it's gotten a pretty glowing review on CNet. Also, Nokia took out a full-page ad in the NYT positioning it as a competitor to BlackBerry. Granted, it's not tied to a carrier yet, but if I recall correctly the E61i was subsidized by AT&T at some point, so there's always that possibility. (Full disclosure, I'm thinking of getting one of the two phones in the coming year, so this would be handy for me personally)

I would like to see a comparison between the Bold and the G1 purely for personal reasons, as those are the two phones I can not decide between.

Nokia E71, definitely, because it is, I think the best competitor to the blackberry bold.

HTC Touch Pro or possibly the XPeria X1. HTC G1 is also a good idea.

Touch Pro. Even though specs are pretty similar, it is WinMo and blackberry, but different smartphone form factors. The Bold is a classic QWERTY slab, while the Touch Pro is a slide-reveal QWERTY (which I like more).
Commence!

Or, a Curve. Even better, an 8900. Brother vs. brother!

Palm Treo Pro. Similar form factor and usage model (more corporate targeted).

Blackberry Bold vs. the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 please!
I am sick of everything being compared to the iPhone 3G. The iPhone is not even a real smartphone.

I know that the phone is not available in US, at least now, but I will like to see the Bold vs the HTC Touch HD or Sony Xperia.

Bold vs. Palm Treo Pro
Bold vs. Nokia E71

I think a Bold vs. iPhone would be cool because Apple is putting the phone up against smartphones from RIM and other smartphone makers. The phone is marketed as a business phone.

Would love to see the Brother VS. Brother, (Curve VS Bold).

Know that the latest is suppose to be a step up, but have relatives that have one of each. Bold is dropping calls, the Curve seems to be steady. Like the fact that can manipulate Excel files on the Bold.
