Craving the Motorola Krave

Verizon announces the Motorola Krave.

Better late then never, we say. Two years after its original debut, the Motorola Ming has made its way to the United States. But it's not exactly the Motorola Ming; rather, it's a variant called the Motorola Krave ZN4. Launching today with Verizon Wireless, the Krave ZN4 is one of the coolest phones we've seen in a while. Check out our full Krave ZN4 review and our Krave slide show.

The Krave offers the same basic design that resembles a Star Trek communicator. Yet, it adds more features while offering innovative design tweaks to an intuitive and easy-to-use touch interface. We had a couple of complaints--there's still no Wi-Fi, camera editing options are few, and the Web browser takes acclimation--but the Krave remains a sharp and satisfying device that's sure to become a conversation piece. Performance was agreeable as well, and we loved the bargain basement price of $149 with a two-year contract.

Read the full review of the Motorola Krave ZN4.

When did $149 with a two year contract become a "bargain basement" price?

When other smart phones came out with prices in the ball park of $200 - $900... That's when.

It is hard to believe this guy didn't get money from Motorola to write this review. Clearly enough to make $149 (and the lack of features) pale in comparison...

Quick question Kent: How do you define what is a smartphone? I've seen it described as a phone with a third party operating system, but wouldn't that make RIM and Apple devices non-smartphones?

I would define the "smart" designation as push e-mail. that's basically what it boils down to. in those parameters, I do not define the iPhone as a smartphone, just a great multimedia phone with an excellent web browser. This phone would also miss the mark in my book, but it does what it does with a purpose. i'd have to experience the design for myself, because this phone is borderline all flash, no substance.

So, am I to understand that this phone won't sync with my Microsoft Outlook calendar? How can it be a smartphone if it doesn't do that?

No one ever called the Krave a smartphone...? This phone looks like a great deal to me.

It's also a bleeping CDMA device - the original A1200 Ming was GSM. BLEAH! So much for that as an upgrade...

Has anyone had a problem using the touch screen with long fingernails?
It was recommended that I purchase a Dare instead of the Krave because of this problem.

EVERYONE has a problem with the touch screen! This phone is full of hardware bugs and just returned mine before the 30 day window closed. There were 6 people in line at the Vz store for tech support with multiple issues.

149 for a two year contract? well, according tho the receipt from when i bought the phone and had it shipped to my house, it says the original retail price is 349.99 and the verizon store in my town tried selling it to me for 129.99 for a two year contract (and i was upgrading). so i bought mine online. it was 99.99 online with a 50 dollar online discount. after taxes i paid a whopping 53.11. i recomend buying online while the sale is still going on. it's quite a steal. =P
