Now, by big and bad, we don't necessarily mean that in the "This phone is so rockin', it'll knock your socks off" kind of way. The Nokia N75 is big in the bulky sense and it's bad in that there are some major disappointments to this much-anticipated phone. Is it all bad? I mean, there's got to be a reason why there's been so much clamor for this phone since it was first introduced in September 2006, right? Well, we finally got our hands on one, so take a look through our photo gallery and then read our full review to see what the N75 has to offer and see if it was worth the wait.

After a bit and back and forth last week the Nokia N75 is officially back on sale with AT&T/Cingular. Last Friday, the N75 popped onto the carrier's Web site, only to be removed moments later. Cingular never came clean on the cell-phone hokey pokey but the same thing happened to the LG CU500v. Now a week, later both the N75 and CU500v are back on sale. The N75 is $199 with service.

Well, I'll be darned, look who finally showed up on Cingular/AT&T's doorstep: the Nokia N75. After months and months (and months) of waiting, the music-centric, 3G-loving N75 appeared on the carrier's Web site today and with very little fanfare might we add. This is just a bit curious seeing as how much hype and interest the smart phone got prelaunch, and also a bit peculiar since it seems the N75's product page is now gone from the Cingular Web site. We know it wasn't just wishful thinking on our part, because we were able to grab a screenshot of the page, and several other sources, including the Boy Genius Report and Phone Scoop, reported on the announcement as well. Hmm, did someone at Cingular/AT&T just get a little trigger happy? Come on, you're killing us here!

We're not sure what's going on, but we're trying to get some official details from the carrier. In the meantime, here are some details on Nokia N75 that we grabbed during its brief, shining moment in the spotlight:

  • High-speed data access over UMTS network, but no HSDPA support; works with Cingular Video and Cingular Music
  • 2-megapixel camera with up to 10x zoom and video recording
  • Supports Windows Media DRM and is compatible with Napster and Yahoo Music
  • Dual speakers for 3D surround sound
  • Speakerphone, voice dialing, and voice commands
  • Integrated Bluetooth
  • Runs S60 platform on the Symbian operating system

The Nokia N75 was listed for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Out of curiosity, is anyone seeing the N75 on the Cingular Web site? Let us know.

Cingular-branded Nokia N75

We'd just about given up hope on ever seeing the Nokia N75 hit U.S. streets, but our dreams have been briefly resuscitated after spotting pictures of a Cingular-branded N75 on the Boy Genius Report. As you may recall, the N75 got the FCC's blessing back in November, so it's really just up to Nokia and Cingular to get this thing finalized and out the door. Unfortunately, there's no official word on availability or pricing, but there are rumors that the N75 may be released as early as this month or delayed till later--come on, already! We do know that the Nokia N75 will be a 3G-loving phone with support for Cingular Music and Cingular Video. Other goodies on the N75 include a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Symbian OS, and a Micro SD slot. Seriously though, if this thing doesn't come out soon, I'm over it. Just how long are we expected to wait?

Cingular-bound Nokia N75 gets FCC blessing

Nokia N75

Back in September, Nokia revamped its N series with some souped-up models, including the 5-megapixel, camera-equipped Nokia N95 and the musically talented Nokia N75 flip phone. However, our biggest fear about these drool-worthy gadgets was that they would suffer the same fate of their predecessors and lack the backing of a U.S. carrier. I don't know about you, but I certainly don't have an extra few hundred dollars lying around to purchase an unlocked N93. But it looks like that won't be the case with the N75. Today, the FCC approved the quad-band, UMTS smart phone for Cingular, and according to the user manual, the N75 will support over-the-air music and music video downloads and have the ability to get tracks from Plays for Sure services when connected to a computer using Windows Media Player 10. Other goodies on the N75 include a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a Micro SD slot. Sweet. No word yet on availability or pricing, but we'll definitely be keeping our eye on this bad boy.
