We review the LG Decoy

Once in a long while a cell phone comes along that is completely unlike any other. We've seen fancy touch-screen phones and smartphones so clever they're practically computers, but it's rare we see anything that's truly unique. The LG Decoy steps outside conventional wisdom and presents to us one such device: the first-ever handset with a built-in Bluetooth headset. We were skeptical, of course, on whether this would truly work. But in the end, we have to admit this is a pretty ingenious idea. We hear about lost Bluetooth headsets all the time, plus it's not always convenient to wear one all day long. This way, you get a Bluetooth headset right at your fingertips. Sure it's not the best headset in the world--it doesn't have noise reduction or echo-canceling technology--but it's good enough for use in the car. The Decoy's headset even supports streaming music, so you could use it to listen to some quick tunes while on the move. Even without the headset, the Decoy is a pretty good cell phone--it has plenty of multimedia features, EV-DO, V Cast support, plus great call quality--but the addition of the Bluetooth headset just makes it that much better. Check out our full review for all the details, and peruse through our slide show for a closer look.

The LG Decoy, which we mentioned last week, is now officially available from Verizon Wireless. If you'll recall, the Decoy is the first-ever handset with a stowaway built-in Bluetooth headset in the back. It's a slider phone, with a 2-megapixel camera, a microSD card slot, stereo Bluetooth, an MP3 player, EV-DO support, and access to Verizon's V Cast broadband services. The Decoy is priced at $179.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $50 discount.

The following products mentioned are available.

LG introduces 3 new phones for Verizon

LG Dare

LG just dropped some heavy cell phone news this morning with the announcement of three new handsets for Verizon Wireless. The most intriguing of the lot is the LG Dare, a phone that will join the ranks of the LG Vu, the Samsung Instinct, and the Apple iPhone as a full-fledged touch-screen handset. The one difference seems to be that the Dare has a stylus, with "advanced handwriting recognition" plus a virtual QWERTY keyboard (EDIT: Verizon says the Dare does not have a stylus, which makes the "advanced handwriting recognition" statement a little confusing). It will have V Cast support, a 3.2-megapixel camera that promises to adapt to low light levels, a built-in photo editing tool, plus the capability to upload the photos to a "social networking site" (MySpace or Facebook, perhaps?). Not a lot of information on the Dare yet, but we hope to learn more once it launches in July.

The next phone on the list is the LG Decoy, which we mentioned in an earlier rumor about the phone's release. As you'll recall, the Decoy is the first ever phone to have a stowaway Bluetooth headset integrated into the back of the device. The Decoy is a slider phone, and will also have V Cast and VZ Navigator support. It will be in stores on June 16.

And last, but definitely not least, is the LG Chocolate 3. Instead of its predecessor's slider form factor, the Chocolate 3 will be in flip form with the music player control wheel on the outside. Features include an FM transmitter, an MP3 player of course, V Cast support, dual speakers, stereo Bluetooth, 1GB of internal memory plus a microSD card slot, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and more. According to reports, the Chocolate 3 will arrive in stores in July as well.

It certainly looks like LG has been very busy, with all these devices coming out around the same time frame. No pricing information yet, but we'll definitely keep you updated on these phones, and keep a look out for our reviews as soon as we get them.

LG will purportedly launch the LG Decoy on June 16, which is just in time for the hands-free calling laws effective in July. This is because the LG Decoy comes with a stowaway Bluetooth headset that can be removed when you need it, and placed back when you don't. So far we know that it'll have a 2.0-megapixel camera, video and MP3 playback, and a microSD card slot. It will be available from Verizon for $179 with a two-year contract, $249 with a one-year contract, and $349 in full retail. We look forward to getting a review unit of this soon, so stay tuned!
