Lenovo is having a field day this CES with reinventing portable devices. As if smartbooks and hybrid tablet/notebooks weren't enough, the newly-announced IdeaPad S10-3t sounds even more enticing to purchase.
While many swivel-screen Netbooks have shown more promise than actual performance, the details here are eye-catching. New Atom processors up to the Atom N470 and a 10.1-inch screen are accompanied by up to a 320GB hard drive and a four- or eight-cell battery.
The "Natural Touch" panel is multitouch and, to our excitement, capacitive like an iPhone's, avoiding the awkward world of pressure-based resistive displays used in stylus-based touchscreens. The Dolby sound and hi-def screen suggest the S10-3t could be a decent media machine as well, especially when folded over into a very commuting-friendly form. 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and WiMax are supported. 2 USB ports, VGA-out, and a multi-format carder round out the features.
At a starting price of $499, the S10-3t isn't cheap--but it could be an excellent set of features

Typing on the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2.
(Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET)In testing Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-2 and IdeaPad S12 Netbooks this week, an interesting thought occurred to us. Technically, both laptops are nearly similar inside: Intel Atom N270 processors, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive. What differentiates them more than anything else are their screen sizes (10.2 inch and 12.1-inch) and their keyboards.
While screen size has been often discussed among Netbook owners, keyboard size and comfort hasn't as much. And, to a degree, it's the only true factor differentiating smartphones and Netbooks as far as interface is concerned. The real advantage to Netbooks is that you can type on them, like a laptop. But here's the question: are almost-regular size keyboards more difficult to use than intentionally small keyboards on MIDs and smartphones? Click through to hear us out. ... Read more

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 is thin, but has a very bulgy battery pack.
(Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET)Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 Netbook was one of the most popular budget mininotebooks for good reasons: its business-friendly tools, ExpressCard slot, and reasonable price all made it a great option for consumers or corporate users.
When we last visited the S10 in May, the addition of a six-cell battery fixed our gripe about the short battery life of the previous version. Now, another revision is available which effectively replaces the S10--the S10-2. This new model has some physical changes--most good, a couple bad--but keeps the same general components at a reduced price. It's a better deal than previous models, but you'll have to live without one key feature.

We were impressed with the recent 6-cell battery upgrade for Lenovo's S10 Netbook, and now the company (most famous for the ThinkPad line of business laptops) has announced a bigger revamp.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 (well, it's transparency in product naming, if nothing else) will be slightly thinner and lighter than the original, starting at 2.2 pounds and .71-inches. There's a new patterned design on the lids, available in white, black, pink, or grey.
We recently got a sneak peek at the new S10-2, and the most notable improvement was probably the tweaked keyboard, which has a larger right-shift key -- usually the trickiest part of designing a Netbook keyboard.
Inside, you'll find the same Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drive, plus the quick-launch pre-Windows OS and VeriFace facial-recognition software we found on the most recent S10.
The new Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 will be announced later this evening, and will run from $349 to $399 (for a version with a 3G antenna built ... Read more

Lenovo will soon release a second version of its IdeaPad S10 Netbook, which it will sell to schools. The IdeaPad S10e will be sold through Lenovo's Government & Education channel and is scheduled to start shipping on November 25. When it does, it will be the first Netbook to feature instant-on software that will let you access various apps without first booting to Windows.
The S10e will feature DeviceVM's Splashtop app, which Asus offers on some of its laptops (but, curiously, not on any of its Eee PC Netbooks). Lenovo dubs Splashtop QuickStart for its Netbook and will offer the app on models that feature Windows and a spinning hard drive. (Presumably, your boot times will be so quick with Linux/SSD models that you won't need it.) Quick Start grants you access to e-mail, Web browser, IM, Skype, and your photos and music.
The IdeaPad S10e will feature an Intel Atom processor, a 80GB hard drive or 4GB SSD, and either Windows XP Home or Novell's Suse Linux , ... Read more
Those who follow the ever-growing Netbook market have been waiting for one fairly conspicuous straggler to arrive. Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 Netbook was originally announced way back on August 4, but has only just started shipping.
We eagerly checked the incoming-mail pile this morning, and were very excited to find a brand new Lenovo S10 waiting for us. Our review unit had an Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a standard 5,400rpm 160GB hard drive, as opposed to the smaller SSD hard drives found in many other Netbooks (including Dell's recent Inspiron Mini 9). The 10.2-inch display has a resolution of 1,024x600, which is standard for 9- and 10-inch Netbooks.
Checking out the Lenovo Web site this morning, only one version of the IdeaPad S10 was available. That model had 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, with a price of $439 (and a shipping estimate of 2-3 weeks), but the system should be available with other RAM and hard drive options soon.

Lenovo on Monday announced the IdeaPad S10, the company's first Netbook, scheduled for an October release. Ingredients that make up the IdeaPad S10 include a 10.2-inch LED-backlit display, an Intel Atom processor, a keyboard that's 85 percent the size of a full-size laptop keyboard, and Windows XP. Lenovo will release two models initially.
A $399 model will include 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, and $449 will bump those specs up to 1GB of memory and a 160GB drive. The IdeaPad S10 will be available in white, black, and red, and Lenovo states it weighs just north of 2 pounds and measures roughly one-inch thick.
Lenovo's Netbook will also feature a Webcam, a pair of USB ports, a 4-in-1 card reader, and most notably, an ExpressCard slot. An ExpressCard slot gives you the option of adding a mobile broadband card, an ... Read more
