It's a perfect excuse to look back at the picks from the most recent show, January 2009. We've gone to the archives and highlighted the winners in 10 categories--including our overall Best of Show. Best of CES Awards
(Credit: CNET Networks)For the third year in a row, the Consumer Electronics Association has asked the expert editors at CNET to pick the hottest new gadgets from the International Consumer Electronics Show. The 30 finalists for Best of CES 2008 have been announced, and you can vote your favorite for the People's Voice Award.
Winners will be announced live on CNET TV at 2 p.m. tomorrow, January 9, so check back then to see who the winners are, and which lucky gadget will earn the coveted Best in Show award.

Alienware's Area 51 m9750
You may be asking, "Whatever happened to that laptop that won CNET's Best of CES award in the Gaming category back in January?" Like you, we've been waiting for the Alienware Area 51 m9750 ever since. With high-end options including dual video cards, a Blu-ray drive, and even a TV tuner, this massive black box impressed with a starting price around $2,000 (minus all those cool extras, of course).
After bugging Alienware on a seemingly weekly basis for months, the Area 51 m9750 was finally released this week, and our favorite Dell subsidiary even managed to send a rep to lovingly hand deliver one into our greedy little paws.
Is it the best gaming laptop ever? It's certainly close to the largest, at least for 17-inch desktop replacements, at nearly 10 pounds and 15.5-inches wide.

You slackers haven't even begun your shopping for the holidays this year, right? Well, we're already busy gathering info on gadgets you're gonna want next year. That's right, Best of CES for 2007. So if you build gear, get your boss to enter your company's greatest awaited gizmo.
The Zen Vision:M shown here was Best of Show at CES in 2006 and drew hundreds of comments. The biggest complaint? Not enough advertising for the product.
Here's the entire winner list from Best of CES 2006 in Las Vegas, as well as videos. Among them, the AVIC-Z1 is still extremely popular among people into after-market car stereos. Other popular items include the Denon AVR-2807, Samsung HL-S5679W HDTV and, of course, the Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology.
