Of COURSE they're happy to attack - it's all they have available to them. Let's face it - when it comes to the competition - their prices are astronomical, their products uninspiring, and the iPhone is happily stomping the crap out of pretty much anything that isn't a Crackberry (and even in that case, RIM is getting nervous).

Every article about anything other than apple products always gets attacked by all the Apple fan boys. Can't stand the heat get out of the pan.

You misspelled "Microsoft" in your first sentence up there. ;)

To expand on the post... the competition has, no kidding, uninspiring products.

We're talking about companies who sell rehashed sidekicks, "touch screen" phones whose biggest advertised "feature" is that it serves a mirror when it's not on, and warmed-over Blackberries that don't do much more than the previous models did.

Until someone out there comes up with something that can touch the iPhone in functionality and feature set,all they have available to them is attacks and negativity.

Funniest thing is, I don't own an iPhone. I don't own any smartphone (as I have no real use for one). I know a ton of folks who do, I have had to support them @ work numerous times in previous jobs, and it's pretty obvious which phone stands out among the rest... and it ain't one built by RIM, Nokia, Samsung, or etc.

Verizon's billing department is full of liar's and schemers. That is why I won't ever use them. It costs too much in hidden fees. They really don't have the same integrity in their business plan as AT&T. So what if AT&T might be slightly slower with their 3G network? It's better to have an honest company.

The iPhone's got issues to be sure. But it's an incredible little device - a year from now no one will remember any of the "troubling issues".

In NY state I never met anyone that uses AT@T. I have a business and I would never switch to an iphone unless they switched to Verizon. All my calls are free since its all verizon to verizon. The current Iphone has holes in it and Apple better fix them soon before people get their accounts hacked. And while you are at it fix the holes that show up every week in Quicktime and Safari.

You don't even own an iPhone, but, you talk like you tested it. WIdows is full of hole, but you don't seem to be concerned.

@skot: That's because he's either a troll or an astroturfer.

I am sure Steve / Att will make it up to us, remember he did offer that apple store credit when he switched the prices on the 1st gen iPhones.

I have a Verizon 3G broadband card in my Air and it kicks my iPhone 3G butt. iPhone 3G on AT&T is a joke. Will iPhone run on Verizon? I don't want to hear no stinking excuses I just want my data!

Sure, AT&T is a lousy company, but they do have one thing going for them that makes them worth my money: they don't nickel-and-dime you to death. In bigger cities their network is awful. Outside bigger cities, where I live, their network is second to no one.

What this really comes down to is iPhone envy. These other companies are jealous. Steve Jobs is a marketing genius. He could sell iDirt for $200 a pound. Seriously, he is that good. Add to that the Mac fans who believe Apple can do no wrong. The result is people leaving in droves to AT&T for the iPhone. I know of several people who dropped Verizon for the iPhone. Not I. Even though I already have AT&T, I didn't like using the iPhone and I hated the rate plans.

It is iPhone envy. The iPhone is pretty girl that won't go with you to the prom.

I'm kinda confued... the title says "rivals" (plural), but I only see Verizon mentioned, which is singular 'rival'.

I would be happier if MANY rivals (pural) were saying something right now though.

As a Verizon customer, I'd never even THINK of switching to AT&T. My 3G connections are more consistent than AT&T's EDGE network! Sure dead spots exist, but they're dead for all carriers, and even then I can still use the phone while AT&T customers are "searching for network".

I pay more, but I also get what I pay for. Fast 3G, a network that ALWAYS works, and a phone that works as well as the network (HTC Touch). Can you say you get all three (OK, yeah you Sprint customers can...).

I hate all phone companies like I hate traitor politicians, but the iPhone is one cool device. Verizon messed up big time not taking it.
