Apple sued over iPhone screen tech
Two related companies are suing Apple over screen rendering technology used in the iPhone and iPod Touch, according to reports.
Picsel Technologies and Picsel Research, based in Glasgow, Scotland, filed a patent-infringement lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court in Delaware, Dow Jones reported. The suit alleges that Apple is violating a Picsel technology that accelerates the process of updating a device's display.
According to Macworld, the suit is focused on Picsel technology that people use to zoom and pan documents, sites, and images. Apple's devices wouldn't function as fluidly without the technology, alleges Picsel, which wants compensation for devices already sold.
Picsel's site says its customers include Motorola, Nokia, NTT DoCoMo, Palm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Sharp. According to Dow Jones, Apple declined to comment.

So it's not just simple zooming in/out.
Hope Picsel wins!!
Where is he, I have seen one of his posts in a few weeks? Unless, of course, you are referring to a troll other than the oral fixated "Lion."
Apple is THE MOST SUED COMPANY in the computer industry, look it up, the proof is on the Internet!
Second, the cliche is "there are many ways to skin a cat." Picsel patented the method (I think it is possible to patent methods, but you just can't patent something that is common, such as breathing air or moving your arm up and down.) Apple will probably say that Picsel's patent falls in the area of common sense (zoom and pan, for example.) One interesting thing to note here is that this article did not point out Google as a licensee of this zoom and pan technology. I would think that the operation and the rapid updating of screens in its Google Earth application fall within Picsel's patent. Maybe the patent applies only to portable devices. Or maybe it isn't and I don't fully understand the technology that's at issue here.
Apple is becoming evil. Too bad many people can't realise that.
Don't worry guys I used to be one too but now I know better
soon you too will realize that all this hate is pointless
Apple gets sued on a regular basis but they win most of the time
BTW the whole Apple suing palm thing was a made up rumor
Apple never claimed that they r going to Sue Palm or n e body else
but just gave out a waring
as far as Apple's innovations go ,their products speak for themselves
the Ipod the iphone and the MAC have changed the industry forever
no denying that, Apple don't invent but re-invent
playstation 2 was good. people buy it. Ps 3 was like crapple expensive and non comparable for the actual thing its built for(entertainment) to the Xbox 360. thats how mac is to the pc. it looks good but not better than a pc.
you seem to be too obsessed with market-share
Ford has more market-share than BMW so does that mean they make better cars ?
market share means squat
it's brand name and customer satisfaction that reign supreme
and Apple leads others in those 2 fields by a big margin
Also GUI was first introduced by Apple
if it wasn't for the Mac , Windows wouldn't have existed !
So why hate a company that revolutionized the whole industry !
your now enjoying the fruits of their labour !
Filing patents is an industry in and of itself with no regulation. In its original intent it was a good idea. It the current condition, it only causes problems.
Flies to a honey pot.

maybe Apple's warning was intended to LG n others
the new LG Cookie is a cheap knock-off of the Iphone by a big way , so who knows !
as far as the itunes App store goes !
if it's such a pain why is everyone else{including palm} copying the model ?
It would be pretty funny if it was directed at other company's. Since apple naimed no company and palm spoke up about it. It is kind of an admittance from palm. Now how will a confession hold up in court?
However I beleive the quote went something like this.
"We will not let any company steal our intellectual property"

- Now, now. I disagree with what Apple is doing to prevent us users from using the iPhone the way we want to but I agree that this patent lawsuit is frivolous as Apple will wind hands down with this one. Panning, scrolling, zooming etc. are part of the Mac OS and any GUI based OS for ages. Apple has not extrapolated this technology in its implementation on the iPhone. The out of screen buffering is part of the core os operations and as Display PostScript in Mac OS X. Since iPhone uses the same core the off-screen buffering does not imply that Picsel has any patent claims on the iPhone implementation. Picsel may have claims with other mobile oses but not iPhone or for that matter android (linux based) and winmo (ahem).
