Yahoo's new look

Home page transformation

Yahoo has released a redesign that offers more information on the home page, but is less cluttered. "At the end of the day, we made our little slice of Web more relevant to you," says Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang in the intro video, as co-founder David Filo holds up irreverent signs behind him. "Make yourself at home, again," Yang says. The actual Web page is not yet welcoming to all, however. For now, the new Yahoo design can be seen only by Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 1.5 users who click on the "sneak preview" button on the home page.

"Unfortunately, you're using a browser we don't support today. Check back in the coming weeks--we plan to support additional browsers soon," said a Yahoo message to Opera users who tried to see the preview. Some versions of IE and Firefox also were turned away.

I noticed that IE7 doesn't work... How could they let Microsoft down like that?

New?

Yahoo's "new look" is not impressive. It's still very, very cluttered; 'way' too busy. Google remains the best out there, IMHO.

Perhaps you're just not among Yahoo!'s target segment, who want
more on the page because they find it useful.

If all you want is a search engine, it makes no sense to compare
Yahoo!'s front page -- a portal -- to Google's. Instead check out:

Since friday, i.e. 5 days ago, my log on to yahoo is met with page telling me my sbc account is no longer valid. The strange thing is my yahoo plus account is self paid, and there had never been a sbc association in the last two years.Since yahoo has no telephone listing, i have to drive all the way to Sunnyvale Yahoo's headquarter, and there i got a business card with the yahoo customer service telephone number to call. Then yahoo said what i experienced is wide spread and the engineers are working on it. Five days past and i still cannot log on.Is it related to the new Yahoo?

You can't possibly be surprised by this? Yahoo is a lot like Microsoft, they have gotten so big, that any changes made will almost always cause a problem some where because of the millions of lines of code can't be all read; can't be all debugged within a reasonable amount of time. Go with someone smaller, go with Google. Email me for an invite.
