WebTV price set at $329

Philips and Magnavox today set a $329 price tag for its WebTV box that lets you surf the Net on a television set.

The WebTV Network was launched last month, and Philips and Magnavox showed up to announce a joint venture for manufacturing the hardware. But the companies didn't announce either pricing or details about the hardware until today.

The set, officially titled the Philips Magnavox WebTV, will cost $329 and will come equipped with a 33-kbps modem, 16-bit stereo audio output, a credit card reader, a one-thumb remote control for browsing, and an infrared remote keyboard. It hooks up to a regular TV set for surfing the Web or sending email.
