Want to buy the Napster-mobile?

Here's a scoop for Napster fans: The music-swapping company's co-founder, Shawn Fanning, has quietly turned to eBay to sell his "Napster-mobile," a 1995 Mazda RX-7.

According to Fanning, "This was my daily driver during the peak of the Napster controversy. Unfortunately, the car is no longer practical (only seats two) and I am auctioning it off."

Reached today, Fanning said in an interview that he was surprised that the item was discovered. "I didn't tell anyone," he said.

He added: "I was just playing around; it was the first time I used eBay."

The auction for Fanning's car began June 15, according to the auction site. But he first listed the car at the wrong price. "Unfortunately, I typed the mileage in the starting price box--starting price should be ($20,000)."

Fanning revised the auction today after it received press attention. Even at the lower price, the car had received no bids as of 1 p.m. PT today.

According to a recent Rolling Stone article, Fanning is a "gearhead obsessed with Mazda RX-7s." The white car is no clunker, having been "hacked" to put out 300 to 320 horsepower.

But now, Fanning says, "I want something more practical."
