Wal-Mart promises fast photo printing

November 9, 2004
Fuji Photo Film and retail chain Wal-Mart on Tuesday expanded an earlier pact to offer customers new options to get prints from digital photos.

Under the agreement, all 3,400 Wal-Mart Stores and Sam's Clubs that offer one-hour digital-photo service will take orders for off-site printing of digital pictures. Four-by-six prints will be delivered within two days and will cost 15 cents per print at Wal-Mart and 13 cents per print at Sam's Club.

The new initiative is mainly aimed at those who have a digital camera but don't own a computer or have access to a broadband connection, the companies said. Fujifilm will not charge for the delivery.

"We are excited about the addition of a digital kiosk to our dropbox, allowing our customers and members to get a great everyday low-price option on digital pictures, just like they have had, and still do have, from film," Sharon Wibben, vice president of Photo and Connections Centers at Wal-Mart, said in a statement. "With the growth of the digital-photo category becoming more mainstream, this only makes sense."

Images uploaded online through Wal-Mart and Sam's Club Web sites for in-store, one-hour pickup service will cost 19 cents and 18 cents, respectively. Home delivery prints will cost 12 cents and 11 cents, respectively, in addition to shipping costs, the companies said.

I'm So Confused!

i don't understand this article. what's this article talking about? there's so much mixing of online ordering, in-store ordering, kiosk's, home delivery (that would mean someone brings it to my home, obtw) that i just don't get it. and, it's cheaper to have photos delivered to my home then it is to pick them up in the store? and fuji won't charge for home delivery, but there's a shipping charge? this article is pure mush at trying to describe what the new service is.

EDITORS: how 'bout rewriting this so it makes sense, please?
