WAP 2.0 makes debut

A new version of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) has been released for public review, according to the WAP Forum. Among other things, the latest version of WAP supports "WAP push," which allows a wireless device user to receive news alerts without being asked, as well as other services.

On Wednesday, three of the world's top four handset makers--Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola--said they plan to support the latest version in their next generations of handsets. WAP is a software language used to help mobile devices interact with the Internet.
