Vulcan picks up online games provider

Vulcan Ventures, the investment company of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, acquired Small World Media, a provider of online fantasy sports games. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The assets of New York-based Small World will become part of The Sporting News, a sports media and publishing company that Vulcan acquired in February. Small World CEO Mark Jacobstein will remain with the company as vice president and general manager of fantasy sports for The Sporting News.

The fantasy sports division will continue to develop and maintain licensed fantasy sports games in baseball, football, basketball, hockey, auto racing, soccer and golf. The unit will operate from Small World's existing facility in New York.
