VisorPhone heads to Europe

Handspring said Wednesday that it wants to start selling its VisorPhone add-on in Europe by summer. The handheld maker said it is already making the unit, which allows Visor handhelds to act as cell phones, available to European carriers for testing.

Also, Handspring has partnered with a French company in an effort to boost its wireless data capabilities. Handspring said it will work with wireless module maker Wavecom to "explore the development of future wireless data products and modules for the U.S., Europe and other global GSM markets." GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a wireless standard used extensively in Europe and also in the United States.
