Via brings PCI Express to AMD-based computers

Via Technologies, a company that sells chipsets that connect central processors to the rest of a computer, announced a new product Friday that brings PCI Express input-output technology to computers running Advanced Micro Devices chips. The K8T890 chipset supports a 16x PCI Express channel for graphics cards and four 1x channels for devices such as cards for networking, audio or video capture.

PCI Express has begun replacing the older PCI technology; newer chipsets from Intel support the new connection technology, though there was one glitch using PCI Express on servers. Via's K8T890 supports AMD's Athlon 64, Opteron and Sempron processors.
