VeriSign completes Guardent buy

VeriSign on Friday said it has completed its acquisition of Guardent, a privately held provider of managed security services. Under the terms of the deal, Verisign paid a total of $135 million--with $65 million in cash and the rest in stock. As previously reported, VeriSign had signed an agreement to acquire the Waltham, Mass.-based company in December.

VeriSign will take over Guardent's offices and 160 employees in Waltham and Providence, R.I. Although VeriSign offers similar services, Guardent adds expertise in some areas where VeriSign was not as strong, such as vulnerability management, according to company executives.
