VeriSign buys Web company Moreover

In a move to offer a larger variety of services, VeriSign has acquired content aggregator and distributor Moreover Technologies for about $30 million in cash, the company said Monday. Moreover aggregates content from 12,000 news sources and millions of blogs in 126 countries and 25 languages. That content is tagged and delivered Web sites including MSN, AskJeeves, and the BBC, VeriSign said in a statement.

Moreover will be part of a newly formed VeriSign business unit that also includes the recently acquired Weblogs.com and VeriSign's own "ping service" infrastructure. Moreover's 35-strong staff in San Francisco and London are now VeriSign employees. They will remain in their own offices, VeriSign said. Mountain View, Calif., VeriSign is working to be a provider of broad infrastructure services. The company operates the Internet registry for .com and .net domains, runs root servers for the Internet's Domain Name System, and offers security services.
