It's just a game, sheesh. Chavez needs to get over himself, if he thinks his little banana republic is worth the time and effort of the "gringo machinery". Besides, he needs to focus on internal matters, such as finding all those critics of his policies who mysteriously "disappeared".

I wonder if Hillary Clinton, Jack Thompson, and Hugo Chavez went to school together. They seem to share similar views on how video games affect people's minds...

Don't judge the country by it's leader - Chavez is as big a jerk as the Idiot-in-chief.

Venezuela is bigger than Texas & the 10th largest oil producer in the world. Doesn't grow many bananas.

Was a pretty cool place a few years ago. But sounds like Chavez is sucking it under.

Too bad

It's a game. Some ego driven people like to cry when a game could be considered about them. Too all those over-sensitive people I say too bad.

At least we're covered.

Hey, this is pretty good news. If games provide the blueprint for fighting a war, we can stop using mass formations of people and focus on small squads doing battle in remote locations for control of each others nation's flag.

On the downside, we also have to fight World War II at least 700 times to use all the plans we made after the fact.

Of course, eventually this must all lead to space and galactic domination. For starters, we're going to need someone to open a portal to hell in a poorly lit science base on Phobos. NASA is going to have to get this intergalactic travel thing buttoned up pretty soon too.

Gringos and video games.
by Dave_Brown May 26, 2006 8:37 AM PDT
I highly doubt the US Administration was involved in the creation of this video game. The makers probably just watched the news and got the idea from there. Chavez fails to realize that unlike in his country, in the USA, corporations are not controlled by the government (it's the other way around).

I believe there was a story floating around CNet recently regarding certain Muslims creating video games that portray Americans as the bad guys. Why doesn't Chavez just create a video game such as this?

Regarding that "Muslim game", which I assume you mean that silly little one that got a bunch of politicians pissed off.

It wasn't real. It was just a video from one of the battlefield games (American, I believe is the origin) on a specific map where the enemies were US forces. After that, it had a line from Team America: World police dubbed over.

Quite funny, really, that people though it was real.

Just a game, but...
by ddesy May 26, 2006 10:16 AM PDT
It's just a game, but I'm tired of seeing all these games pit real life
groups of people against each other. It is unfortunate that instead
of attempting some originality and creating ficticious worlds we
always focus on the real one.

That being said, if the game allows play as US troops invading
Venezuela, hopefully it will allow play as Venezuelan troops
fighting back. It's only fair to represent both sides, after all.

are you serious. Our government is passing laws and signing them into effect that will limit games. Minnesoda, Oaklahoma, Deleware, Louisiana are some states to name a few. Our government doenst understand media like videogames so they are restricting it. The only thing that they produced was Americas Army, which is not being forced upon us. Paranoia is insane.

Ok, first off its OKLAHOMA and DELAWARE,second, get your facts straight, they are not limiting games, they are limiting who can buy games with with high maturity ratings. Basically, its enforcing the M17, where you have to be 17 or older to purchase those games.

Chavez is an idiot
by TogetherinParis May 26, 2006 11:14 PM PDT
Your parents should be able to buy you any video game you
want and the games should be clearly labeled as to content, with
more information available publicly on the web that the
company stands behind. I'd like to see a Chavez Hunt game, for
instance, where you're able to squeeze his pimple only after
refuting some boneheaded anti-American stupidity that Chavez
came up with for his own empty notoriety's sake.

US brown-nose Congressmen are the stupid ones

and the venezuela congressmen also. But criticizing this game for being an attack on Chavez and not criticizing the ones on Sadam Hussein, etc. shows a great deal of stupidity as well on the people behind this move.
