Transmeta wins Microsoft partner designation

Transmeta on Wednesday said the chipmaker has been designated by Microsoft as a reference design partner for the next generation of smart displays. Transmeta also said it received the designation because of its energy-efficient processor technology for powering the displays which run on Windows CE .Net operating software, a system designed for devices.

Smart displays are wireless, touch-screen monitors whose function is to allow people to access their Windows XP-based PCs from remote locations within the home or office. These devices are designed to connect to PCs from up to about 100 feet away over an 802.11b wireless network.
