The number of Time Warner Cable customers with digital video recorders is closing in on the one million mark. During its announcement of first-quarter results last Wednesday, the cable division's parent company Time Warner said DVR subscribers were up 136,000 to 998,000. Subscriptions to video-on-demand service were up 108,000 to more than 1.6 million.
$6 a month for a HD PVR is hard to beat, however, the software is horrid. It does not even approach Tivo for features, quality, and ease of use. But, the price is hard to ignore. Just own both. :-)
You have to subscribe to digital cable to get the DVR
Time Warner Cable says that their DVR only works with digital cable. I wonder if that's really true because Tivo works fine with regular cable. That means you have to pay more money for more channels before you get the DVR. They're really subsidising their DVR cost by charging more for the cable necessary to get their DVR.
