TiVo exceeds 3 million subscribers
Digital-video recorder pioneer TiVo announced Friday it has exceeded 3 million subscribers. The company added about 698,000 new customers--447,000 through DirecTV's satellite service--to its DVR service in its fourth quarter, which ended Jan. 31. The additions are part of an aggressive growth plan that began last year and includes a $50 million marketing budget to double its subscriber numbers each year for the next three years.
TiVo is in the middle of a search for a new chief executive to take over for Michael Ramsay, who will remain chairman. The company's president recently announced his resignation.

- I would not ever pay $13 a month for a glorified tv guide and the right for Tivo to turn my record button off if they or the media corps to not approve of my view habits. By a DVD recorder instead, all the same features and no Nazi big brother looking over your tv recording!

- Tivo's service is well worth the money and cable has hidden charges.
- The Tivo service is awesome. It's more than a guide. It's automatic recording by actor, actress, or key word. It's automatically recording the same TV program whenever it's on. Whether you pay the monthly fee or buy the lifetime service, it's worth every penny. My cable company offers a $5 a month DVD but you can't get it unless you subscribe to their full channel line up. Ultimately, it's cheaper.
