Misleading Premise
This story erroneously implies that rugged handhelds are a new product line from Symbol. They've been making them for years. What's new is the links to cellular networks.

I left Symbol almost 2 years ago and the 6 foot drop test was well established at that time. In fact, technically, the software I wrote had to pass that same drop test. If you hold the CD horizontally when you let go this is not a problem, vertically is more dicy. :-)
