The popular Norton Utilities are already available for Windows 95 and Macintosh; Symantec, which bought the disk-fixing suite from Peter Norton in 1990, is now releasing a version for Windows NT comprised of the following five utilities:
-- System Doctor monitors either the workstation or server for potential crashes or data losses. It scans for viruses, fragmentation and other problems. System Doctor also monitors network connections and warns users of slowdowns.
-- Disk Doctor corrects hard disk problems on both FAT 16 and NTFS drives.
-- Protection/UnErase monitors all file deletions and makes sure they are recoverable from the "Recycle" bin.
-- Speed Disk supplies a defragmenting tool to the NFTS file system. It automatically monitors the extent of fragmentation and warns the user when "defrag" is needed. Called up by the System Doctor, Speed Disk can run in the background while a user continues to work.
-- System Information gives a status report on CPU and BIOS information, disk space usage, memory usage, network and multimedia components, and other peripherals.
Norton Utilities for NT 4.0 is available immediately for $99.
