Symantec has announced an encryption option for its Veritas NetBackup product. The NetBackup Media Server Encryption Option encrypts data at the media server and lets enterprises make their backup tapes secure, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The encryption option is slated to be available in January, the company said. MSEO will be available for NetBackup versions 5.1 and 6.0 and will complement NetBackup's existing Client Encryption Option, which does the backup data encryption at the client.
