Sybase links back office to mobile devices

Sybase on Monday introduced new products to its mobile software line for shuttling data from back-office applications to mobile devices.

The company's Unwired Accelerator includes a visual designer that allows businesspeople to select information from databases to be published to mobile devices such as PalmPilots or Pocket PCs. The toolkit, which runs in conjunction with Sybase's mobile portal software, is designed for nonprogrammers. For more complex applications, Sybase has developed Unwired Orchestrator, a set of more sophisticated tools designed to simplify the task of building business workflow automation applications that involve mobile devices. Developers can use the software to create programs based on Web services protocols to tap into multiple data sources at once, according to Sybase. The new products complement Sybase's existing mobile software line, which includes a mobile database and connectivity middleware that runs on mobile devices.
