Hoffman said he was leaving to focus his efforts on Commerce One, where he holds the position of president and chief executive officer. Commerce One launched in April of this year.
Hoffman, who cofounded the database maker and ran it for 12 years, resigned as CEO last August under pressure from the company's board following several money-losing quarters.
