Sun bolsters federated ID lineup

Sun Microsystems has added two products to its identity management software line that promise to help companies safely work with partners on their networks. The products, released Monday, use a "federated" approach that lets people use a range of Web sites, data and programs without having to verify their identity each time.

With Federation Manager, companies can build identity and authentication services that let them safely exchange credentials and user data with two or more partners. Identity Manager Service Provider Edition promises to make it easier for businesses to develop and introduce new applications across partner networks. It also handles identity services for the registration and administration of users.
