The conference, dubbed "Upside Summit 98," will bring together Steve Case, chairman and CEO of America Online, and Rep. W.J. Tauzin (R-Louisiana), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunication, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
Other speakers at the conference will include Sen. Orrin Hatch, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the one looking into concerns of Microsoft's alleged antitrust practices, and RealNetworks' CEO Rob Glaser. In July, Glaser appeared before Sen. Hatch's subcommittee to blast Microsoft for its anticompetitive practices.
The Upside Summit plans to tackle issues relating to antitrust, privacy, intellectual property and patents, telecommunications, Internet portals, venture capital, and freedom of speech, among others.
Upside Summit attendance is by invitation only, and limited to 200 people. Top executives and senior management whose technology strategies drive the digital revolution, and influential futurists, economists, and business gurus were invited to the conference to compare notes and discuss business.
The conference will be held September 15 through September 17 in Washington.
