  • Post a comment
StarMedia Network announced today that it acquired Webcast Solutions, the latest example of an Internet portal joining forces with a Webcaster, confirming a report by CNET News.com.

The acquisition will be a cornerstone for StarMedia broadband, StarMedia's new broadband services arm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"[Webcast Solutions'] international expertise?will help us to further strengthen our position," said Fernando Espuelas, StarMedia CEO.

Webcast Solutions, which provides live and on-demand Webcasting, made its first Webcast in July 1995. It previously has provided Webcasts to Macromedia, Wine.com, and StarMedia, among others.

StarMedia's network targets Latin America, competing with the likes of Yahoo and America Online in capturing customers. The company has previously acquired rivals such as LatinRed of Spain and Cade of Brazil.

This summer, Yahoo completed a deal to buy Broadcast.com to expand its broadband offerings and reach more Net users who listen to Internet programming at work.
