40 Percent

40 Percent of people think their IT department should do a better job of protecting them? Well 100% of the IT departments think that their end users shouldn't believe every popup that says their computer may be infected and to 'click here' for a solution to this problem! Having been in the tech industry for 5 years, I have seen a growing population of under educated, highly paid execs who believe it is the IT departments responsibility to prevent these spyware attacks on their machines. Do they expect us to look over their shoulder 24/7, and to say 'Don't click that link!' every time they feel the urge to see where that ad at the top of that website will take them?

But, I also believe that there is a greater need now for more education to the end user.

It's true no doubt about it, I scan my computers twice a week, and it always finds new crap. Just being connected to the Internet is enough to get infected with spyware these days. It serious matter, and people's privacy is at great risk. :(

Absolute rubbish. What am I doing different to you. My (Windows) PC is on 24 hours a day downloading using Azureus. It's NATted and behind a firewall of course and it's up to date with MS patches and anti virus patches and I use Opera. I scan it every Saturday with Spybot and Adware and it never ever finds anything (apart from the odd cookie, which is normal).
