Sony ships 10 million PS2s in Japan

Sony announced it has shipped 10 million units of its PlayStation 2 video game console in Japan since the system's launch there in March 2000. It took the original PlayStation seven months longer to reach that benchmark.

Sony announced in May that worldwide shipments of the PlayStation 2 have surpassed 30 million units, putting the console far ahead in terms of shipments of Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube.
