11 inch sets?
Is that correct? Not 41 inches or 51 inches but 11 inches? One thousand 11 inch sets per month probably aren't gonna have much of an impact.

Status Symbol Too
You're right about the little impact 1,000 11-inch OLED displays will have. However, you overlooked that the author of the article mentions Sony wants OLED to be a status symbol. Haha, my BluRay player and decked out audio system is gonna be the talk of the neighborhood once I get my 11-inch OLED display hooked up to it.

Kitchen TV ?
Woohoo, now I'll be able to spend 3 times more to buy an under-the-counter TV for my kitchen (what else would you want an 11-inch screen for?)

Now when I'm watching TV in the corner of my eye while doing dishes, I'll have the peace of mind that the picture I'm barely seeing is clearer and brighter.

Does it come in full HD, 1080p? I'll be able to stand 4 inches from it and if I can keep my eyes in focus, actually see Keanu Reeves's hair out of place when I watch The Matrix!

Oh and I can show it off to all my rich friends. What am I going to say, "Hey look at me, I'm stupid enough to pay 3x the normal price for an 11 inch TV!"??

:)

HAHAHAAH
WTH? This isn't porn, we don't get excited about eleven inches when talking about TV's. What a joke, if Sony said we are coming out with 30-40 inch OLED's at the same price as LCD's, then I'd be jumping up and down.

A status symbol? That just means Sony is going to overcharge for these tiny things just like they overcharge for the PS3.

Sony = Rootkit
I wouldn't trust Sony with a 11 foot pole.

Paranoia
Yikes! If you bring one of these OLED televisions into your home, it
will install a root kit on any Windows PC in its vicinity.

Oh come on, what Sony's music business did was inexcusable, but
this is a separate product, from a separate business group, run by
separate people. Even Oliver Stone would say such paranoia is
ridiculous.

Maybe I'm jaded, but
In one year's time it'll be obsolete trash.
Possibly sooner. And just to make things better, the blue pixels on those displays will be fading by then.

That and the fact that I will have a hard time ever buying a Sony product again after their rootkit fiasco means they won't be getting my money for this one.

do you remember the time
when sony invented the dvd and how expensive it was? What about the cd, the status symbol of the early 90's, i recall Sony and Phillips creating them at 30 bucks a pop. O i also recall that Sony were the ones who pushed for higher quality sound.Which increased the size of the cd and cost listeners an extra five dollars per cd. Funny how smaller and better back then resulted in revolution, whereas now it results in "ROOTKIT"
may i remind you that Sony is a MASSIVE company consisting of 5 groups with it's hand in everything from transistors to Hollywood.
The fact remains that even as Sony creates groundbreaking products that you may not buy, it drives down prices of other prodcuts from other companies to keep in competition. Any way you scrape it Sony delivers products directly or indirectly to the willing consumers. And it is not just Sony at fault in everything that has happened, look at the market. Look at all the piracy and people willing to exploit a rootkit in order to steal your identity. Look at those laptops whose batteries were recalled, Dell anyone? This is a world in which people and companies are always trying to take advantage of each other, and I feel at least there is a company who is at least TRYING to do the best thing for itself AND for consumers.

yeah, bring on the laser DLP!
i'm still waiting for the laser DLP sets... sharper, clearer, brighter DLP big screens, thin and light enough to wall-mount.

OLEDs are the future though... once they get the tech all figured out. Then it's sweet jellyfish-glowing tv's for everyone!

is coming back I read. TVs are like computers. They expect
consumers to buy a new TV every 3 years. CRAZY!!!!!!!

To all who commented on the 11'' size...
The impression I got was that they were demo models, that they aren't actually selling these things to compete with TVs. They are showing off the technology. Get half a brain and make a leap! But make sure you're not leaping into a door-sized wall-mounted OLED TV displaying an image of an open door; they actually looked flat enough to fool someone.
