Software can process credit cards wirelessly

E-commerce payment systems maker First Data and wireless equipment and software developer Aether Systems have created software that will enable some cell phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) to accept and verify credit card payments over the air, First Data said Wednesday. The company did not disclose when it would begin selling PocketMerchant or how much it would cost. The software will work on most phones and PDAs using Palm's operating system, according to Aether.
