Lame attempt to get press...
by jamesreb September 20, 2006 4:13 AM PDT
Howie is just trying to get more press coverage for his struggling Sirius show. It could possibly be true but not on a popularity basis. Mel Karmazin knows that Sirius is losing money FAST on Howard. He didn't bring even 15% of his terrestrial radio base. Reasons that I've heard include that Stern isn't very funny anymore, not worth the satellite sub, and he is just plain not relevant like he was at his peak a long time ago. He would be copying off of Opie & Anthony. The thing O&A have more than anything over Howie is his audience.

Hoo hoo Robin, no one is listening.

THIS is a lame attempt...

To comment on something that you apparently know nothing about. Stern has brought 3-3.5mil listeners to Sirius since he announced his move, that's almost 25% of his terrestrial audience. He needed to bring 1mil listeners to pay for his deal, so he's more than tripled his baseline. Sirius has taken over the retail market for satellite (outselling XM 2:1), so Sirius is far from losing money on Stern. Also, anyone who's listened to the show knows that it's *much* funnier on satellite. Also interesting to note that Inside Radio is partly owned by ClearChannel - coincidence? I think not.

Once again radio execs fabbing stories
by Phil_Canyon September 20, 2006 5:11 AM PDT
Just another story to dissuade people from getting satellite radio. Never mind mind Stern, just the satellite stations are well worth it. If you haven't got it, just imagine, no mortgage commercials (or any of them on the music channels) and they'll be no commercials either. Intacom and viacom will tell you they'll have to have them but it won't happen. We pay to not have them, duh!
