Siemens to join OSDL

Siemens has announced it is to join the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). Siemens, which recently sold off its mobile unit to Taiwanese company BenQ, will be involved in the open-source group's mobile Linux initiative.

Launched earlier this month, the mobile Linux initiative is working on standardizing the elements of the operating system used on mobiles.

As well as contributing to furthering the adoption of Linux in the mobile sphere, Siemens will also take part in the OSDL's efforts to drive open-source uptake through the Labs' projects for carrier-grade Linux and data center Linux.

Jo Best of Silicon.com reported from London.
