Short Take: U.S. residents will pay $40 for broadband now, study says
More than 12 million U.S. residents are willing to pay $40 per month for
high-speed Internet access, and a total of 23 million U.S. residents are
interested in broadband services at that price, according to a new report by
communications market research firm The Strategis Group. Strategis expects
25 million high-speed households by 2004, up from 1.9 million in 1999.
Residential broadband revenue is expected to increase to $7.67 billion in
five years from $580 million today. In 2004, cable is expected to claim 46
percent of the market compared with 40 percent for digital subscriber lines.
