Short Take: Traffic information system planned

Digital mapping technology company Etak and traffic reporting service Metro Networks will develop a nationwide real-time traveler information system. The system will transmit reports on traffic patterns and incidents, road conditions and construction, special events, weather descriptions, and other travel news to portable computers, video kiosks, message watches, and cable television. Ten American cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco will have access to the service this year, with additional cities to follow.
