Short Take: RadioShack to collect used cell phones for violence victims

RadioShack's 7,100 stores will serve as the first national collection site for people to donate used, inactive mobile phones in support of the Wireless Foundation's Donate a Phone program. RadioShack will accept used wireless phones and accessories through Oct. 31 in honor of National Domestic Violence Awareness month. The Donate a Phone campaign provides refurbished wireless phones to domestic violence shelters, law enforcement agencies and other groups working to fight domestic violence. The phones are preprogrammed with 911 and other emergency numbers so that victims of domestic violence can access local emergency services and domestic violence hotline numbers at the touch of a button.
