Short Take: One-third more U.S. adults online, survey says

Twenty-one percent of adults in the United States now are using the Internet, up one-third from the second quarter of 1997, according to the latest American Internet User Survey from Cyber Dialogue/FindSVP. Of those adults who are online, 85 percent use the Web and 75 percent use email, the survey found. Not everyone is staying online, however: according to the survey, 15.9 million U.S. adults tried the Internet in the past year, but are no longer coming online.
