Short Take: Microsoft closes Hotmail, IM security gap

Microsoft has patched a hole in its email and instant messaging services that compromised the security of MSN Instant Messenger contact lists when Hotmail accounts expired. The problem surfaced after Hotmail account holders who let their accounts lapse because of inactivity noticed that their IM accounts fell into others' hands.
