Short Take: HP integrates Cisco's inter-switch link

Hewlett-Packard announced it will implement the inter-switch link (ISL) protocol from Cisco Systems in its HP Internet Advisor network testing tool. Using the ISL protocol, an administrator can gather and decode statistics on virtual LAN (local area network) traffic, such as the percentage of network traffic a VLAN implementation is taking up. A VLAN is a broadcast domain on a network of switches that is intended for users in different sites. The VLAN test capability is available now from HP.
