Short Take: EA invests for Web games, PlayStation2
Electronic Arts has invested about $350 million to develop its Web-based business to compete with rivals such as Sega Enterprises. It has invested another $350 million to create games for Sony's PlayStation2, the New York Times reported. The video-game maker already paid America Online $81 million to be the exclusive operator of the Internet service provider's game channel. Electronic Arts also will unveil its new Web site, EA.com, in September to bring its online products to wider audiences.
