Dell will preinstall the Linux operating system on its laptops and home computers in the coming months, extending the operating system availability from servers, workstations, and business desktops to more mainstream computers. Dell's Dimension line should have Linux by the fourth quarter of 1999, a spokesman said. Support for the portable computers also could arrive this year, he said.
